A doctoral research scholar from Canada, Ms. Katharina, together with a student from the Ocean University of Sri Lanka, visited the Sri Lanka Mangrove Museum and Learning Centre on June 12, 2026, to conduct an observational study focused on mangrove conservation and eco-tourism. The primary objective of the visit was to collect data and information for Ms. Katharina’s PhD research, which explores the relationship between mangrove ecosystem conservation and sustainable eco-tourism development. Working in collaboration with the Ocean University of Sri Lanka, the research aims to identify effective ways of protecting mangrove habitats while promoting environmentally responsible tourism opportunities.

On 5th June, in celebration of World Environment Day, the Centre for Sustainable Solutions (CSS) of the University of Kelaniya visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum and Learning Center to participate in a mangrove restoration programme. As part of the initiative, students and staff members planted 100 mangrove saplings, contributing to the conservation and restoration of the valuable mangrove ecosystem in the Pambala area. The programme aimed to raise environmental awareness while encouraging active participation in climate action and biodiversity conservation.
