MSc Research Student Visits the Lanka Mangrove Museum & Learning Center

On 09th July 2026, we were pleased to welcome Ms. A.A.M. Anuradha M. Nanayakkara, an MSc student in Environmental Science from the Department of Zoology and Environmental Science, Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, to the Lanka Mangrove Museum & Learning Center, Pambala.

Ms. Nanayakkara is conducting her MSc research titled:

“Carbon Sequestration Capacity of Replanted Mangroves in the Western Coastal Belt of Sri Lanka.”

Her research focuses on assessing and comparing the carbon sequestration potential of replanted mangrove forests of different age groups in the Pambala mangrove restoration site. During her field visit, she carried out non-destructive ecological assessments, including mangrove species identification, tree diameter (DBH), tree height, and tree density measurements.

We are delighted to facilitate and support scientific research that contributes to a better understanding of mangrove ecosystems and their vital role in climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration.

The Lanka Mangrove Museum & Learning Center remains committed to promoting research, education, and conservation by providing opportunities for students and researchers to study Sri Lanka’s unique mangrove ecosystems.

We wish Ms. Anuradha every success in her research and look forward to the valuable contributions her study will make to mangrove conservation in Sri Lanka.
