Environmental Learning Journey – 3rd Group
On 17th February 2026, the third group of pre-school children from the Chilaw Pradeshiya Sabha area visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum and Learning Center as part of the new education reforms aimed at nurturing environmental awareness from an early age.

The young learners enthusiastically explored the museum exhibits and were introduced to the importance of mangrove ecosystems, biodiversity, and environmental conservation. Through guided sessions and interactive learning activities, the children gained valuable knowledge about protecting nature and understanding their role in safeguarding the environment.

This visit marked another successful step in integrating environmental education into early childhood learning, helping to shape a generation that is conscious, responsible, and committed to sustainable living.

On 20 January 2026, students from the Dankotuwa Nenasa Education Center visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum and Learning Center to participate in an environmental awareness programme.

During the visit, the students were introduced to the importance of mangrove ecosystems, their role in protecting coastal areas, supporting biodiversity, and maintaining environmental balance. Through interactive discussions and educational explanations, the programme aimed to build awareness and appreciation of mangroves among young learners.

On 5th January 2025, six students from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, who are studying Urban and Aquatic Bio-Resources, visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum & Learning Center (LMM&LC) to collect data for their academic research.

Their study focuses on “Identification of Mangrove Plant Species and Their Diverse Morphological Characteristics.” During the visit, the students closely observed different mangrove species, examined their physical features, and gathered field-based data to support their research objectives. The visit provided valuable hands-on learning and enhanced their understanding of mangrove biodiversity and species identification in a natural setting.

On November 20, 2025, students from Horombawa Maha Vidyalaya, Kuliyapitiya, visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum and Learning Center as part of an educational field trip. The visit provided the students with an opportunity to explore the unique world of mangrove ecosystems and understand their vital role in environmental conservation.

On November 8, 2025, students from Ch/Karukkuwa Sugathananda National School visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum and Learning Center as part of their educational field visit.

During their visit, the students explored the museum’s exhibits and learned about the vital role mangroves play in protecting coastal ecosystems. They also gained insights into mangrove biodiversity, conservation practices, and the importance of maintaining a balanced environment.

Students from the Open University of Sri Lanka, accompanied by Dr. Kalinga Padmalal and Dr. Gihan Dahanayeka, visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum and Learning Center as part of their field visit program.

During their visit, the students explored the museum’s exhibits and gained valuable insights into the ecological importance of mangrove ecosystems. The museum’s educational team guided them through various sections, explaining the conservation efforts, biodiversity, and sustainable practices related to mangrove management.

On October 17, 2025, a group of students from Wadduwa Central College visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum and Learning Center. During their visit, the students explored the museum’s exhibits, gaining valuable knowledge about the importance of mangrove ecosystems and their role in environmental protection.
