"Together With Mangroves" Youth Society Engages in Mangrove Nursery Care and Research
On November 7, 2024, the “Together With Mangroves” Children and Youth Environmental Society continued their dedicated efforts to protect and nurture mangrove ecosystems. The group carried out their routine care of the mangrove nursery they have been maintaining, reaffirming their commitment to environmental stewardship.
The young environmentalists took part in essential activities such as watering, weeding, and monitoring the growth of mangrove saplings. Their consistent care ensures the healthy development of the nursery, which serves as a vital resource for mangrove restoration efforts.
On the same day, the youth society collaborated with a student from the Geography Department of the University of Ruhuna, who was conducting research related to mangrove ecosystems. The students actively participated in data collection and discussions, gaining valuable insights into research methodologies and the scientific aspects of mangrove conservation.
This hands-on experience provided the children and youth with a deeper understanding of the importance of research in shaping conservation strategies. It also highlighted the interconnectedness of education, community action, and scientific inquiry in fostering sustainable development.
The Lanka Mangrove Museum continues to inspire and empower young minds through initiatives like these, encouraging youth to become future leaders in environmental conservation. The “Together With Mangroves” Youth Society’s dedication exemplifies how collective action can make a lasting impact on protecting fragile ecosystems.
