On July 9, 2025, a vibrant group of students from Gampaha Sri Sangabodhi National College visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum for an educational and interactive experience focused on mangrove conservation and coastal ecosystem awareness.
The visit was part of the school’s efforts to provide students with practical exposure to environmental issues and the importance of biodiversity. Upon arrival, the group was warmly welcomed by the museum’s educational staff, who guided them through a series of well-curated exhibits showcasing the diversity, ecological value, and challenges faced by mangrove ecosystems in Sri Lanka.
Students learned about the unique adaptations of mangrove species, their critical role in protecting shorelines from erosion and storm surges, and their function as breeding grounds for various aquatic life. The museum’s awareness session emphasized the urgent need to conserve mangroves in the face of climate change and increasing human pressure on coastal zones.
The visit served as an eye-opening experience for many of the students, inspiring discussions about sustainability, conservation strategies, and their personal role in protecting nature. The Lanka Mangrove Museum continues to play a key role in environmental education, empowering young minds to become responsible stewards of the planet.
The museum extends its heartfelt appreciation to Gampaha Sri Sangabodhi National College for their active participation and interest in mangrove conservation.
