Karukkuwa Sugathananda National School Visits Lanka Mangrove Museum

March 27, 2025

The Lanka Mangrove Museum welcomed students, teachers, and parents from Karukkuwa Sugathananda National School on Thursday, March 27th, 2025. The visit was organized as part of the school’s educational field trip program aimed at enhancing students’ environmental awareness and practical knowledge.

Visitors from Karukkuwa explored our comprehensive exhibits showcasing Sri Lanka’s diverse mangrove ecosystems. The museum experience provided them with valuable insights into the ecological importance of mangroves, their unique adaptations, and the vital role these ecosystems play in supporting coastal biodiversity and protecting shorelines.

Throughout the day, our museum guides conducted informative tours highlighting the various species of mangroves found in Sri Lanka and their contributions to local communities. The presence of parents alongside students and teachers created a wonderful multi-generational learning environment, allowing families to discover together the significance of mangrove conservation.

“Having parents join this educational visit was particularly rewarding,” noted our museum director. “When conservation awareness extends beyond the classroom to families, it strengthens community involvement in environmental protection efforts.”

The school group participated in our interactive exhibits and viewed educational documentaries that demonstrate how mangroves serve as natural barriers against coastal erosion, provide nursery habitats for marine life, and help mitigate the effects of climate change.

We are grateful to Karukkuwa Sugathananda National School for choosing the Lanka Mangrove Museum as part of their educational curriculum and for their interest in raising awareness about these critical ecosystems among their students.

The Lanka Mangrove Museum continues to welcome educational institutions from across Sri Lanka as part of our commitment to promoting environmental education and conservation values among future generations.
