Mangrove Awareness & Education Day: CH Senanayake Central College Visit
On Mangrove Awareness & Education Day, students and teachers from CH Senanayake Central College came together to learn about the vital role mangroves play in protecting our coastal zones. Located in the coastal belt lagoon area of Puttlam District, the school is situated in a region that may be increasingly vulnerable to the effects of sea level rise.
Given the potential risks facing the low-lying zones of the Chilaw area, the main goal of this visit was to raise awareness about the importance of mangrove conservation. Through engaging discussions and educational activities, participants learned about the ecological benefits of mangroves, including their ability to protect coastal areas from erosion and storm surges.
This initiative aimed not only to inform but also to inspire action, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to safeguard mangrove ecosystems. By promoting better understanding and practices of mangrove conservation, we hope to ensure that future generations are equipped to protect our coastal environments from the growing impacts of climate change.
Let’s work together to preserve these vital ecosystems for a sustainable future! 🌱🌊 #MangroveAwareness #ClimateAction #SustainableCoasts #EnvironmentalEducation
The coastal belt lagoon mangrove area is where Ch/ Senanayake Central College is situated. Therefore, as some study has indicated that the Puttlam District coastal belt area may be influenced by sea level rise, our main goal is to raise awareness of mangrove protection among students and teachers in order to to show the future risk of low level zones in chilawarea and discuss about the mangrove conservation practices to protect the coastal zone.
