Open University Nawala Students Explore Mangrove Museum: An Educational Visit on Conservation

A group of 34 students and 6 lecturers from the Open University of Nawala visited the Mangrove Museum as part of an educational excursion aimed at deepening their understanding of mangrove ecosystems and conservation efforts.
The visit commenced with a briefing held in the museum’s auditorium, where the students and lecturers were introduced to the critical role mangroves play in the local environment. The session covered the importance of preserving these unique ecosystems, which act as natural buffers against coastal erosion, provide habitats for diverse marine life, and support the livelihoods of local communities.
Following the briefing, the group explored the museum exhibits, which feature a wide array of educational displays on mangrove species, their ecological significance, and the ongoing conservation efforts in the region.
