On November 25, 2024, the Lanka Mangrove Museum welcomed 55 members of the Elders Society from Ekala.

Visitors appreciated the intricacies of the mangrove ecosystem through guided demonstrations and descriptive presentations. The exhibits focused on the several types of marine life that mangroves support, their capability to defend coastlines, as well as their role in alleviating global warming. A number of members appreciated the initiatives of the museum in covering these ecosystems and clan areas. For some, it was an opportunity to interact with nature once again, while for others, it was a new way of looking at environmental conservation.

At the end of the awareness program, the people gathered made a promise together that they would teach their children and grandchildren the importance of preserving the ecosystem. Their willingness to do so emphasizes the significance of the basic education program of the museum.

The Lanka Mangrove Museum appreciates and welcomes visits from various groups including the Elders Society and continues to engage in activities focused on education to help motivate and change the society for a better future.
