The Lanka Mangrove Museum & Learning Center conducted an educational and environmental awareness programme for 240 students from Mahamaya Girls’ College, Kandy, on 30 October 2026.

The programme was designed to enhance students’ understanding of Sri Lanka’s valuable mangrove ecosystems, their ecological significance, and the importance of conserving these unique coastal environments.

During the programme, the students were introduced to the different mangrove species found in Sri Lanka, the fascinating biodiversity associated with mangrove habitats, and the important ecological services provided by mangrove forests. Special attention was given to the role of mangroves in protecting coastlines, providing breeding and nursery grounds for aquatic organisms, supporting local livelihoods, and helping to address climate change.
