🌿 World Mangrove Day Celebration 2026 🌿

On 01 August 2026, the Lanka Mangrove Museum and Learning Center proudly celebrated World Mangrove Day, bringing together environmental experts, government representatives, students, and community members to raise awareness of the importance of mangrove conservation.
The celebration commenced with a vibrant traditional dance performance by the “Together with Mangroves” Children’s Society, followed by a heartfelt rendition of the song “Meka Sonduru Lokayak” by the children, inspiring everyone to appreciate and protect the natural environment.

The programme also featured insightful addresses by Dr. Leela Batuwaththa, Prof. Mala Amarasinghe, and Prof. Kotagama, who joined the event via Zoom. Their inspiring speeches highlighted the ecological, social, and economic importance of mangrove ecosystems and emphasized the collective responsibility of conserving these invaluable coastal forests for future generations.
The World Mangrove Day celebration served as a meaningful platform to strengthen environmental awareness, encourage community participation, and inspire the next generation to become active guardians of Sri Lanka’s mangrove ecosystems.
