19th June 2026

The Lanka Mangrove Museum and Learning Center is pleased to witness the positive impact of its mangrove conservation training programs, as community members from Munaikadu, Batticaloa, have successfully established a mangrove nursery following a recent workshop conducted by the museum.

The workshop provided participants with practical knowledge and hands-on training in mangrove ecology, seed collection, nursery establishment, seedling care, and the importance of mangrove ecosystems in protecting coastal communities and supporting biodiversity. Participants actively engaged in the sessions and demonstrated a strong commitment to applying their newly acquired knowledge.

Following the workshop, the community members of Munaikadu took the initiative to establish their own mangrove nursery, showcasing their dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable coastal management. The nursery will serve as a valuable source of mangrove seedlings for future restoration projects in the area and help strengthen local efforts to protect coastal ecosystems.

This achievement reflects the success of community-based conservation approaches and highlights the important role that local communities play in safeguarding Sri Lanka’s mangrove resources. By nurturing mangrove seedlings today, the people of Munaikadu are contributing to a healthier environment and a more resilient future for generations to come.

The Lanka Mangrove Museum and Learning Center congratulates the community members of Munaikadu on this inspiring initiative. We are delighted to see participants transforming knowledge into action and look forward to supporting their future mangrove conservation and restoration efforts.

Together, we continue to grow a greener and more sustainable future for Sri Lanka’s coastal ecosystems.
