Port City – BOP Supports Community Mangrove Planting Initiative in Ammathottam, Kalpitiya 🌱
Today, a mangrove planting program was successfully conducted in the Ammathottam area of Kalpitiya with the aim of protecting and restoring the valuable mangrove ecosystem. The initiative was organized by the museum and financially supported by Port City – BOP
The program brought together different groups within the community, including women, fishermen, and children from local children’s societies. Their active participation highlighted the importance of community involvement in environmental conservation and demonstrated a shared commitment to protecting nature for future generations.
Mangroves play a vital role in coastal protection, biodiversity conservation, and carbon storage. Planting mangrove saplings contributes significantly to reducing coastal erosion and preserving habitats for many species.
To appreciate and encourage community participation, each participant was provided with a payment of Rs. 5,000 along with a food pack. Such initiatives not only strengthen environmental awareness but also empower local communities to take an active role in conservation efforts.
This successful event reflects the importance of collaborative action in creating a greener and more sustainable future.
