Research Students from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura Visit the Lanka Mangrove Museum & Learning Center
On 20th December 2025, a group of research students from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum & Learning Center as part of their academic research work.
During the program, the Director of the Museum conducted an informative field session, explaining how to identify and differentiate various mangrove species found in Sri Lanka. Students were introduced to key identification features such as leaf shape, root systems, bark texture, and reproductive structures, which are essential for accurate field research and conservation work. The session emphasized the importance of understanding species diversity for effective mangrove management and environmental protection.
The students actively engaged in discussions, asked questions, and observed mangrove species closely in their natural habitat. The visit concluded with an appreciation of the Museum’s role as a learning center that bridges scientific knowledge and environmental conservation, inspiring students to contribute to the sustainable protection of Sri Lanka’s mangrove ecosystems.
