Educational Visit: Narammala Students Discover the World of Mangroves
March 25, 2025
The Lanka Mangrove Museum had the privilege of hosting 20 curious students and their teacher from an Educational Center in Narammala on Tuesday, March 25th. This visit marked another successful educational outreach event as part of our ongoing mission to promote mangrove awareness and conservation.
The students spent their time at the museum exploring our comprehensive exhibits that showcase the rich biodiversity of Sri Lanka’s mangrove ecosystems. They learned about the various species of flora and fauna that make these unique coastal environments their home, as well as the critical ecological services that mangroves provide.
Our knowledgeable guides led the group through interactive displays highlighting the importance of mangrove conservation efforts currently underway throughout Sri Lanka. Students engaged with exhibits demonstrating how mangroves serve as natural barriers against coastal erosion, act as carbon sinks to combat climate change, and provide essential breeding grounds for numerous marine species.

“We were impressed by the level of engagement from the Narammala students,” said one of our museum staff members. “They asked thoughtful questions about mangrove protection and seemed genuinely interested in learning how they could contribute to conservation efforts in their own community.”
The visit concluded with a special presentation on the challenges facing Sri Lanka’s mangrove ecosystems and the collaborative conservation initiatives that are helping to protect these valuable natural resources for future generations.
The Lanka Mangrove Museum remains committed to educating young minds about the ecological importance of mangroves and inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.
