“Our Land Our Future We are #Generation Restoration” (Slogan)

On this very special day, Lanka Mangrove Museum celebrated World Environment Day with women, as well as took the first step toward launching women’s training programs. Mrs. E.M.P.P. Ekanayake, the Divisional Secretary of Madampe, was the chief guest on this program. Women who live close to the mangroves, as well as are members of women’s societies in Madampe DSD made up all of the program participants. Through the women development officers of Madampe DSD, Mrs. Chandra Wijesinghe, and Puttalam District, Mrs. J.M. Bhashini Menaka Jayasundara, LMM was able to gather them.

On this day, the Forest Officer of Chilaw Range Forest Office, Mr. M.S.P. Marasinghe, has conducted an awareness program about Madampe gazzetted mangrove forest areas. After that program, the LMM conducted the first women’s training program to train them for self-employment. Mrs J.M.B.M. Jayasundara made an interative session about the mother’s role for the family and how it gets for awre the society about environmental conservation as well as for the food security.  After that, Mrs. K.Y.P. Darshika, Vidatha Officer started the practical session about sea fish preservation methods. She practically showed how to preserve sea fish through canning and making chutney. All the women who participated interactively joined with the session. These women would like to join with the LMM for further activities too.
