University of Moratuwa Students Visit Lanka Mangrove Museum to Explore Sustainable Tourism Opportunities

On August 5, 2025, a group of students from the University of Moratuwa, currently studying the tourism industry, visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum. The visit aimed to deepen their understanding of eco-tourism and explore sustainable tourism models based on environmental conservation.

During their visit, the students engaged with the museum’s educational exhibits, learning about the vital role mangroves play in coastal protection, biodiversity, and climate resilience. They showed great interest in integrating such ecological knowledge into tourism planning.

The students shared that they are currently working on a project to improve the tourism industry along the Dutch Canal — stretching from Colombo to Puttalam. Their proposed plans aim to promote eco-friendly tourism, heritage preservation, and local community engagement, with a particular focus on nature-based attractions such as the mangrove ecosystems.

The Lanka Mangrove Museum team was encouraged by the students’ enthusiasm and vision for a greener tourism sector and expressed full support for future collaborations.
