Students from K/Hewaheta Central College, Kandy Explore Mangrove Conservation at Lanka Mangrove Museum

On August 6, 2025, a group of enthusiastic students from K/Hewaheta Central College, Kandy, visited the Lanka Mangrove Museum as part of their educational field trip. The visit provided an immersive experience into the world of mangrove ecosystems and their importance in environmental conservation.

The program began with a guided tour of the museum’s specimen collection, where students observed preserved marine and coastal species and learned about the unique biodiversity of Sri Lanka’s mangrove forests. They actively engaged with the displays, asking questions and showing keen interest in the ecological significance of mangroves.

Following the tour, the students participated in an interactive awareness session held in the museum auditorium. The session covered various aspects of mangrove ecology, climate change impacts, and the role of youth in environmental protection. The museum’s educational team highlighted the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems for future generations.

The visit concluded with a walk through the outdoor mangrove trail, where students experienced the natural habitat firsthand. The lush green environment, along with the explanations provided by the museum staff, helped deepen their appreciation for the interconnectedness of nature.
