School Children Begin Environmental Learning Journey at the Lanka Mangrove Museum

6 February 2026

In line with the new education reforms aimed at nurturing environmental awareness from an early age, the Lanka Mangrove Museum has been selected as a learning venue for environmental studies programs designed for preschool children from the Halawatha Pradeshiya Sabha area.

The first group of preschool children visited the museum on 6 February 2026, marking the beginning of this educational initiative. During the visit, the children were introduced to the importance of nature and ecosystems through specially prepared environmental awareness videos. In addition, they were given the opportunity to explore the museum surroundings and experience the natural environment firsthand.

A three-hour interactive session was arranged within the museum premises, allowing the children to observe mangrove ecosystems, engage with educational displays, and develop a closer connection with nature in a child-friendly and enjoyable manner. This hands-on exposure helped enhance their curiosity and understanding of environmental conservation at an early stage.

The Lanka Mangrove Museum remains committed to supporting national education reforms by providing meaningful learning experiences that inspire young minds to appreciate and protect the environment for future generations.

As part of the new education reforms aimed at familiarizing children with the environment, the Halawatha Pradeshiya Sabha area has selected the Lanka Mangrove Museum as a learning site for environmental studies programs for preschool children.
