Weekly Mangrove Care by Ammathottam Village Youth Society

Together with Volunteers from Children and Youth Environmental Society of Lanka Mangrove Museum

Following up on their mangrove planting efforts last week, today the Ammathottam Village “Together With Mangroves” Youth Society dedicated time to caring for the young mangrove plants they recently introduced into the coastal waters. This maintenance work included checking each sapling to ensure healthy growth, adjusting any plants that may have shifted, and monitoring the area for any potential threats to the new mangrove forest.

The youth society’s commitment to nurturing these plants is a vital part of the reforestation project. Regular care helps ensure that the mangroves establish strong roots, supporting coastal protection, biodiversity, and long-term environmental sustainability in Ammathottam Village. By fostering these young plants, the group is contributing directly to a greener, more resilient coastal ecosystem.

Visit last week’s planting initiative for more details on this meaningful project: Mangrove Tree Planting Initiative in Ammathottam Village.

Thank you to the Ammathottam Youth Society for their dedication to our shared environment!

“Together With Mangroves” Children and Youth Environmental Society and this diverse group is working hand in hand to plant mangrove trees, aiming to restore and enhance the vital coastal ecosystems that protect the village from erosion, improve biodiversity, and contribute to climate resilience.
